Don't Be Fooled By These Common Dealer Myths
- MYTH: Factory Invoice is how much the vehicle costs the dealer.
Not true. Dealers often receive manufacturer incentives and holdbacks, which lower the dealer's costs.
- MYTH: 0% financing is a great deal.
Not necessarily! You need nearly perfect credit to qualify for these offers and may be required to give up a potential manufacturer's rebate - often thousands of dollars. In addition, 0% financing can often mean higher monthly payments and is usually only offered on slow-selling models.
- MYTH: If I want to drive home in my new car, I must finance at the dealership.
Wrong! You have anywhere from 5 to 10 days to present the dealer with payment from your credit union or another lender. You can purchase a vehicle over the weekend and finance with LFCU on Monday!

There’s never been a better time to buy a new vehicle. Effective February 17, 2009, you may be able to deduct state and local sales tax on the purchase of a new car.
You can qualify for this deduction if you earn less than $125,000 (or $250,000 for joint filings). Plus, you don't have to itemize (file the long form) to benefit.
What vehicles qualify for the deduction? Any new vehicle under 8,500 pounds qualifies and new vehicles sold for under $49,500. You may deduct up to the amount on the first $49,500. The amount above $49,500 is NOT tax deductable.
